SweepsIndex: The Golf League Handicap Where Every Round Counts
One common playing field for your whole League. Posting is automatic: every Round played in Sweeps is a competition round, counted the moment the Game is finalized. Best 3 of your last 10 Rounds by default, computed in the open, where every player can see exactly how their strokes are built.

Best 3 of your last 10 Rounds
Every Round becomes a differential: (score − course rating) × 113 ÷ slope. That levels a 90 at a hard course against an 87 at an easy one. Your SweepsIndex averages your best three differentials from your last ten Rounds, then multiplies by 0.96, the same conservatism the big handicap systems use. A hot streak helps, but one career day doesn't define you. The index caps at 54.
Here's the whole calculation, worked start to finish. It's the same three steps every player sees in the app. Example: your best 3 Rounds of your last 10 were 87, 89 and 90 at a course rated 71.2, slope 130, par 72.
Each Round becomes a differential: (Score − Course Rating) × (113 / Slope). Average your best 3 from your last 10 Rounds, then × 96% bonus-for-excellence.
(13.7 + 15.5 + 16.3) ÷ 3 = 15.2 × 96% = 14.6
( Best 3 diffs ) ÷ 3 = Avg × Bonus = SweepsIndex
On Game day the index adjusts for the tees you actually play (slope 130, par 72), rounded to a whole number.
( 14.6 × 1.15 ) + 71.2 − 72 = 16.0 ≈ 16
( SweepsIndex × Tee Diff ) + Course Rating − Par = Course Hcp
Formats apply a USGA allowance (stroke play and Stableford play 95%), rounded to a whole number. That's the strokes you actually get.
16 × 95% = 15.2 ≈ 15
Course Hcp × Allowance = Playing Hcp
SweepsIndex uses your best 3 of your last 10 Rounds with the 96% bonus-for-excellence. The USGA Index uses 8 of 20 with additional adjustments.
New to the League? With a smaller pool the rules tighten in steps: at nine Rounds your best 3 still count; mid-size pools count your best 2; the smallest pools count only your best Round, with a −1 or −2 stroke adjustment at the very smallest counts so newcomers can compete without sandbagging the field. Under three Rounds your index is provisional. Commissioners can tune the window; a 5-Round League might play best 2 of 5. The default is the classic best 3 of 10.
Why not just use an official index?
Official indexes are built for rated championship play; weekend Leagues run on whoever showed up Saturday. SweepsIndex only counts Rounds played in your League, updates the moment a Game is finalized, and shows its work: the formula, the Rounds used, and the adjustment are visible to every player. No committee, no mystery strokes.
It also closes the classic loophole. When posting is a separate chore, the sandbagger's move is simple: post the bad days, sit on the good ones, and arrive at the money Game with strokes to spare. In Sweeps, no player picks which Rounds count. There is no separate posting step, every Round you play is a competition round, and the card you shot is the card that counts.
And it bends to your League, not the other way around: the commissioner sets how many Rounds are considered, how many of the best count, and how new players are eased in. Best 3 of 10 is the default because it fits most weekend groups. It's a starting point, not a rule.
Those strokes flow straight into net scoring: net Skins side games, Sweeps Games, and Series standings alike.
